From cosmic characters to super-soldiers, the team has housed some of the most formidable heroes in the Marvel Universe. We’ll take a look at the top ten most powerful Avengers that have graced the pages of comics and break down their strengths and why they stand above their teammates.

Thor

Thor is a God from Asgard with a hammer named Mjolnir. He’s been an Avenger since day one and brings his god-like strength to every battle.

Strengths: Thor boasts incredible levels of strength and durability, along with having control over lightning. Add his century-long combat experience and you have a warrior that won’t back down.

Why He’s Powerful: His physical might mixed with controlling natural forces allows him to take on even cosmic threats by himself.

The Hulk

Scientist Bruce Banner became Hulk following an accident involving gamma radiation. The hero had no intentions of being one at first but eventually became a valuable member of the Avengers.

Strengths: The angrier Hulk gets, the stronger he becomes…and there seems to be no ceiling limit for him yet. Hulk’s invulnerability paired with his ability to heal from any injury makes him nearly unstoppable.

Why He’s Powerful: There isn’t much out there that can stop Hulk from smashing through it — not even adamantium walls or mountains.

Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff is a mutant with reality warping powers which has made her instrumental in saving the world as an Avenger for so many years now.

Strengths: Nearly unmatched when it comes to warping reality, she can change anything she wants about the world around her.

Why She’s Powerful: On multiple occasions, Scarlet Witch has proven that she can alter the course of history. If that doesn’t show you how powerful she is, we don’t know what will.

Doctor Strange

Doctor Stephen Strange was a surgeon until an accident damaged his hands and led him to seek out magic with the Ancient One. Now he’s known as the Sorcerer Supreme and protects Earth from magical threats.

Strengths: His mastery over mystic arts allows him to cast powerful spells and incantations. He knows more about supernatural than most do which makes him a valuable asset during any Avenger mission.

Why He’s Powerful: There’s not much that magic can’t do when in Strange’s control. Time, space and reality itself are all at this sorcerer’s fingertips.

Iron Man

Tony Stark is a genius inventor who spends his billions on fighting crime and protecting the world. The Iron Man armor he created has been pivotal for himself and several other Avengers throughout their careers.

Strengths: Superhuman strength, flight capabilities and advanced weaponry are just a few features of his suit. His intellect is also off charts which means defeating him won’t be easy for any villain.

Why He’s Powerful: Iron Man’s armor is constantly evolving, with each new iteration more powerful than the last. His ability to adapt to any situation and his genius-level intellect make him a key player in the Avengers.

Vision

Vision is a “synthezoid,” an android who has advanced artificial intelligence and the ability to alter his density at will. He’s been with the Avengers for many years now, proving time and time again that he can be relied on.

Strengths: Being an android grants Vision super strength, durability, and the ability to fly. His density manipulation allows him to phase through solid objects as well.

Why He’s Powerful: Combining his unique powerset with his never-ending loyalty makes Vision one of the most valuable members of the Avengers. Not only does he pose a difficult threat in combat by being able to pass through objects, but he is also hard to take down due to his phasing abilities.

Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)

Carol Danvers was once a highly skilled pilot for the United States Air Force, until her unfortunate encounter with Kree technology gave her superhuman abilities. Taking on the name Captain Marvel, she swore to use her newfound powers for good.

Strengths: Captain Marvel’s boasts about having superhuman strength, durability, and flight capabilities. In addition to this, she can absorb energy and fire it back at enemies.

Black Panther

King T’Challa holds claim over Wakanda which is an advanced African nation known for its vibranium reserves. He calls himself Black Panther after taking up the mantle from previous generations of rulers before him.

Strengths: Black panther possesses incredible fighting skills and strategic knowledge. Thanks to Wakandan technology T’Challa also has access to his iconic vibranium suit.

Why He’s Powerful: Being able to fight with the best of them, Black Panther makes for a formidable foe in any given combat situation. His knowledge of tactics and leadership skills make him a valuable asset to the Avengers.

Captain America

Once a scrawny young man named Steve Rogers, he was transformed during World War II by the super-soldier serum into Captain America — the living embodiment of justice and hope.

Strengths: With the serum running through his veins gives him superhuman abilities in terms of strength, agility, and endurance. Combine this with master martial arts training and tactical genius you have yourself Captain America.

Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan)

Kamala Khan is an ordinary teenager who gains shape-shifting abilities overnight thanks to her Inhuman physiology. Inspired by idol Carol Danvers, she takes up the mantle of Ms. Marvel.

Strengths: Thanks to her Inhuman physiology Ms. Marvel can stretch out any part of her body at will or shrink herself down as well. She has also been granted a healing factor on top of all that too which makes her quite formidable indeed.

Why She’s Powerful: Having such unique powers contributes greatly to Ms. Marvel’s versatility in combat situations; she truly is one of a kind. And don’t let her age fool you — Kamala Khan is one brave hero.

These 10 guys here, they are the top of the top. The best of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and they sure do pack a punch. Each guy brings something to the table that makes them each so damn powerful, but when you put them all together? They’re unstoppable.
