The Force of Imagination: 7 Star Wars Comic Book Titles Every Fan Should Read

 


Somewhere in the universe far away from ours, Star Wars has ventured past the cinema screen and into comic books where it continues to enthrall readers with its exciting adventures and deepening mythos. For those who want more knowledge about this epic franchise, here are seven titles they should absolutely read.

Star Wars: Darth Vader (2015–2016)

This series by Kieron Gillen with art by Salvador Larroca delves into the dark personality of Darth Vader. It is set between “A New Hope” and “The Empire Strikes Back”, following his quest for power within the Empire as he deals with being Anakin Skywalker in the past.

Star Wars: Doctor Aphra (2016–2020)

Adding a different perspective to the Star Wars universe, this series follows morally ambiguous archaeologist Doctor Aphra on her adventures. Written by Kieron Gillen then Simon Spurrier later with art by Kev Walker among others, “Doctor Aphra” is a blend of action, comedy and ethical quandaries sure to entertain fans.

Star Wars: Darth Maul — Son of Dathomir (2014)

Jeremy Barlow wrote this miniseries using unused scripts from “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” animated series which tells what happens next after Darth Maul’s captivity under Darth Sidious’ hands. Illustrated by Juan Frigeri, “Son of Dathomir” provides an interesting account about one of Star Wars’ most mysterious characters.

Star Wars: Lando (2015)

This mini-series written by Charles Soule with art from Alex Maleev gives us a closer look at Lando Calrissian’s charming yet cunning personality pre “The Empire Strikes Back”. It shows him going on daring heists that will test not only his wit but also his loyalty.

Star Wars: Kanan (2015–2016)

Greg Weisman writes “Kanan” which explores the backstory of Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus from “Star Wars Rebels” animated series. Pepe Larraz does the illustrations as this comic book dives into Kanan’s Jedi Padawan days and how he became a key figure in leading Rebel Alliance later on.

Star Wars: Thrawn (2018–2019)

This adaptation by Jody Houser with art from Luke Ross is based on Timothy Zahn’s novel that tells the story of how Grand Admiral Thrawn came into existence, one of Star Wars’ most cunning and formidable villains ever created. “Thrawn” lets readers see deeper inside this strategic genius’ mind than any other work before it.

Star Wars: The High Republic (2021-present)

“The High Republic” is set many centuries prior to Skywalker saga where it depicts a golden age for Jedi Order, with interconnected storylines being told across various comics and novels during this era so as to introduce new characters & threats which will shape future events within Star Wars galaxy.
